Impact of Christmas music on AC stations

What is the impact of many of the nation's AC stations going to all-Christmas formats, or playing lots of Christmas tunes mixed in with the usual AC fare? Do record labels not market or push for songs on AC radio during the month of December? Usually, there are only a few new songs that get premiered during the holiday season anyway on most formats. Do record companies know to wait until after the new year to push for potential AC songs to get airplay?

Prior to 2001 or so, record companies might have been able to convince programmers of Adult Contemproary formats to start playing new titles durinbg November and December that would fit that format.

But with so many AC's (and especially Soft AC's) programming all-Christmas formats, it has become futile for labels to try to get new non-Christmas music played on radio during November and December, with so few AC's not going all-Christmas.

Indeed, Sean Ross of Edison Research has written on his website (scroll down about one-third of the way down the page) that in future years, labels will likely be deluging AC program directors with new Christmas music because it will often be the only way to get any artist played on AC stations in November and December.
