HITS 97.3 - Under Construction - Will Reopen 6/3/2020

So WFLC - Hits 97.3's website, facebook, twitter states under construction. Video teases sound of old fashioned changing stations on a tuner and states Reopening June 3, 2020...under construction. Tweaking the format? Keeping the format? Reimaging?

The video caption: "Just a few more days till we're back up and running full force! Mark your calanders, because JUNE 3rd is going to be a GREAT day! #WFLC #Hits973 #BRB #NewHitMusic"

Any ideas what they are doing?

I can't imagine it's a format change. They were doing well for a whole - even beating long time CHR competitor Y100. Probably a tweek. After all "Hits" isn't exactly much of an identity.

And so it begins....Miss Bryan just posted on his Instagram he is out at Hits 973. He’s been running mornings as host after DJ Laz was let go. He’s been with the station 6 years since it’s start as HITS.

If you think about it, for the target, "hits" is a perfect descriptor. It says what they are and also indicates what they are not.

No different than "Country 101.9"

Update

With Cox Media Group CHR “Hits 97.3” WFLC Miami preparing for its relaunch on Wednesday, it appears one of the pieces will be a new morning show.

‘Miss Bryan’ Carstensen took to social media on Monday evening to announce his exit from the station after six years. Carstensen joined WFLC in 2014 as a producer and co-host of the DJ Laz Morning Show and took over mornings solo when Laz exited last November. Prior to coming to Miami, Carstensen was a producer for CBS Radio CHR “92.3 Now” WXRK New York’s “Ty Loves NY” morning show and Nick Cannon’s syndicated “Cannon’s Top 30 Countdown”.

Looks like it's a tweak to the branding (Miami's New Hit Music) and they may have revamped the talent lineup but I don't know what the old lineup was so... good luck to them.

The new PD's old station in Detroit had poor ratings in its days as a CHR/Pop outlet, so I'm somewhat surprised by his hire to lead Hits 97.3.
