HD Radio - indications of a failed technology

With table-top HD radios, there are a number of manufactures, but only a few tens-of-thousands have been sold. The general public has been aware of HD Radio, for two years, according to the following graphs (and, now 75% of Americans, are aware of HD Radio, at some level), but interest has remained flat:

http://www.google.com/trends?q="hd+radio",+ipod,+mp3&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all

http://www.google.com/trends?q="hd+radio",+ps2,+ps3,+"xbox+360"&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all

As we can see, from the graphs, successful technologies, such as iPods, MP3s, and gaming-systems, took off very quickly, and consumer interest has remaind high. In comparison, HD Radio is just a flat line, even after a $200,000,000 ad campaign, by the HD Radio Cartel ! :D

I'm sure you're also aware that those charts contain data for worldwide searches - not just the USA.

I can understand why there wouldn't be a lot of interest in HD in Japan, Iran or Bulgaria (man - those Bulgarians are interested in MP3s!)

Regardless - it's a chicken and egg thing. This time last year, there were two HD radios on the market. There are about to be dozens.

It's all about to change. ;D

The choice is, listen to exactly whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want, or only hear programming that is spoon fed to you by large corporate radio interests that have their own sponsors, shareholders, payola, and agenda as their top priority, and NOT listeners.
Arguments for the infinitesimal amount of interesting local/live content being provided and produced by most stations is not much of a rebuttal. Almost everything on the air is recorded elsewhere, and as radio layoffs continue, less and less live/local content is being broadcast.
I do not think you have to be Bulgarian to appreciate instant gratification.

Awww damn... Those EVIL corporations!

Yeah... And where does the content for every other medium come from?

iTunes - Sure... There's a lot of live, local content there.

Internet/Streaming - Yeah, right... How about your stream Supercaster? Live and local? I thought not...

Satellite - By definition it's not local, but most of it is also not live.

I did not say "EVIL" in that post, you added that.

"My stream"? What is that, something new you made up, supposed to be a takeoff on "My Space"?

There is probably as much live/local available on the internet as there is off the air.

Yea, it is magically going to change, all of a sudden, after $200,000,000 and two years already ! Yea, it is going to change, when the next-generation Satellite Radio and Sync-type products are installed in-dash, starting in 2008 ! :D

I really wish I could find people this gullible in real life. I could probably sell 'em a few bridges.

Yes, you seem to have bought quite a few, yourself. HD Radio/iBiquity = Failed technology.

Happy sales to you, until we meet again.

With all the new products being introduced at CES this week and the new Ford and GM radios as well as the BMW announcement that HD will be available in all of their cars, I have zero worries!

The bright future you see for iBiquity/HD Radio might be the headlight of an oncoming train.

Cute comments and zero substance.

Baton Rouge definitely...

New Orleans? Who knows... I was just listening to Drudge. Eight murders the first week of the new year and they're considering a curfew?
