All Access reporting WPTK/1200 flips to Spanish Tropical as "Rumba 1200". First music format for them since the demise of the venerable WDCQ Oldies format that ran on that frequency in the glory days of AM Stereo.

Does this mean an AM is competing with an FM, in this case WTLQ/97.7 (actually aren't they sisters)? Or is 97.7 sporting a new format (if so, what?)

Questions that need answers.

thx.

I thought the timing was odd. Change format on the same day a Cat 3 hurricane is ripping thru town?<P ID="signature">______________

WINK/Fort Myers Broadcasting decided that Powertalk was not working on 1200 and dumped it because 97.7 was doing so well with its Spanish Tropical Hits format. They flipped 1200 to a Salsa format different than 97.7. My guess is they will use it as compliments to each other. 1200 is a good solid signal and better than the other Spanish AMs in the market.

I also see that 590 is moving the tower from Clewiston out to the Cape. That would likely be the closest rival on the radio.

How does 590 in Clewiston stay in business? the Classical music from Cuba is so strong here, it's gotta be blowing them out of the water down there....

I like the idea of spanish radio dividing the audience between more sticks, although I liked WPTK's programming compared to 1240/1270 (except for Savage @ night)...

Not much going on in Ft. Myers talk anymore...

Wait a second... *crickets* ... not much going on in Ft. Myers in general...
