I remember when The Telezapper - the gizmo you attatch to your phone to block telemarketing calls came out a few years ago and I saw them being advertised on TV for $49.99 + S&H. Much to my surprise when I was at Dollar Tree yesterday I see the same gizmo for only $1.00.

Yikes!

Not many people bought those things. I'm sure the warehouse that had all the unwanted stock sold them to Dollar Tree for pennies on the dollar just to get rid of them.....

Anyone know from personal experience whether they worked?

According to the directions on how to use it, it requires the phone line to be picked up, either picking up the phone or an answering machine picking up the call. It said it didn't work if you let voicemail pickup the call. A company heard about the Telezapper and mentioned that they were creating a way to circumvent the telezapper. I don't remember the article off-hand, but it was a year or 2 ago. Supposedly some people were using it as a way to rid themselves of collection calls too.

Go for it Les. How's your intake of Lead?

Heck my Dollar Tree store has all sorts of Audio/Video, and now Computer cables & Mice. That same printer cable I paid $9 for is $1 at Dollar Tree. I ask you however Les, why do the back of many Dollar Tree items have this exact warning?

**WARNING: Handling the cord on this product will expose you to lead, a Chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects, or other reproductive harm. WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING.**

How many of us wash the lead off our hands after touching cords. Why is there lead present anyway. Even the phone cords have similar warnings, which all somehow are traced back to California. My mouse was made in China, distributed from Chesapeake, Va.

Funny you should....

That's because of an over-protective Caifornia law requiring
notification on the label of any product that contains anything
that might hurt anyone under even the most ridiculous of
circumstances.

It's funny that you mention this because, just this afternoon,
I salvaged a wall-wart transformer to run a couple of very
old 12-volt Christmas lamps. There was a prominent white label
stuck on the cord (after many years) with the very warning you
mention. The lead is used to solder the cord onto the mini-
plug on the 12 volt end.

This is the same law that causes de-rating of ladders sold in
California. Ladders sold in other states with a 225 pound
rating are rated at only 220 pounds here. That's because there
are five pounds of stick-on labels to comply with various silly
state laws. And Arnold thought he could govern it! California
is so nuts that you could fill the entire San Andreas fault with
lithium and it still wouldn't become even momentarily lucid.<P ID="signature">______________
