Forever of SC GM-less again

Why? Wasn't he just brought in to the market this winter?
That means that with the escape of the first-daughter, they have gone through five GM's in four markets in the past year alone. And State College is on what, the fourth sales manager since last summer. Impressive waste.

When you micromanage the way that Forever/Keymarket does normally your first managerial mistake is your last. Doesn't even need to be an error of any type, just any action that doesn't suit the owner at that moment.

It almost seems like the only topics of conversation on this board at any given time deal with the GM at Forever in State College.

One would think any potential GM would read this board and decline the job. No matter what personalilty or skill level they never seem to last. It seems to me that only someone who is desperate would take the GM job. It's too bad it has to be this way.

I feel for the few staff members who actually hang around the building. It must be hard to get used to a new boss all the time.

Most GM types wouldn't be caught dead looking at this site.

They also just see and hear the "potential" payday that could be coming their way if they hit their numbers. Most of them don't realize until its way past too late that the numbers just aren't allowed to happen.

The question remains -- why would someone reportedly well-liked, experienced, with a strong resume bail out so soon? GM jobs don't grow on trees. "Payday" potential doesn't sound likely.

As I said this is somewhat of a unique situation. The management chain of this group is truly bizzare and some people once in the middle of it just can't stand it anymore and bail. This isn't the first time and won't be the last. They have lost at least two programmers in other markets who lasted less than a week for about the same reasons.

The new GM made his first appearance. Wonder if he has any idea what he's in for.

He made it the whole month. His name is Chuck Hertzog. There's also a new Sales Manager--Monty Buehler. Both good guys. Both competent. Hope these two are allowed to stick around.

Should not managers and employees alike remain with the company forever (or as long as they wish to) if the company is named "Forever". Perhaps they should change their name to "This Space For Rent...nightly and weekly rates". How long is a frog supposed to live anyway?

So, Wilcox is toast, eh? And who would be the longest-tenured salesperson, now?

Was the "Fifty Dollar-A-Dub" scam his brainstorm? Has that silliness already faded into the dark and murky past?

Think it dawned on them that there was no production going out the door anyway?

The fifty dollar dub was not Terry's idea--it came from management. They don't fire you for bad ideas or the building would be empty. rofl. Regardless, in the world of radio, you don't fire your top biller. There's going to be tons of speculation on this one. This move will make a huge dent in a company already struggling to make revenue. I hope it was worth it or, in the very least, justified.

I thought Wilcox was the sales manager. If he was fired, does that mean they have none? Didn't he just get promoted to sales manager?!? After many years as a top biller? and didn't they already know his abilities? Yet he is gone in a few months?
How many SM's have they had in the last year? 4 or 5?! And three (?) GM's?
Such a waste of time, money, people!
Fiasco!

Both from WHYL in Carlisle--a daytime-only AM. They probably think they're in heaven just being able to hear their station(s) at night. Woo woo!

Wilcox was the Sales Manager--someone posted a reference to his departure on this thread for GMs but management below the owner level at this particular company just seem to go on the radar screen and in the gun sights about as soon as they sit down at their desk and put their name on their stapler. About a month ago, Terry dropped back down into sales but it was apparently too late. He went from sales to 25 meter pop up target to sales and then finally to casualty of war. Liked the guy. Unless there was some sort of undisclosed, serious misconduct, it's just a damn shame.

Yes, it is a shame :-[
And now the target moves on to someone else in a position of supposed authority.
Bottom line:The company is very poorly run.
No one in a (really) responsible position seems to get canned. Only those chosen to do the bidding of ownership/management.
C'mon, Seriously, if every one (a big number) of the managers over, let us say ...the last four years was that terrible, the person hiring them would get the axe.

They say living well is the best revenge. If he takes his skills to another station in the area, Forever will get an even smaller piece of the ad revenue pie and perhaps live to regret their decision. I mean, what could he have done? Was he selling babies? Doing lines off his desk?
