FM tuner upgrade to network music streamer

Interesting article on how to repurpose an old, unwanted FM tuner by turning it into an audiophile grade network music streamer using a Raspberry Pi.

There's a link to a YouTube tutorial embedded in the article, if anyone here wants to give it a try.

Nice idea, but the software seems to be serious overkill. If all you're doing is streaming (and aren't there legalities/licensing issues there if going outside your own LAN?), there is plenty of software already available for that, and it's been around for many years. If one wants to do Part 15 broadcasting, then the RasPi built-in analog audio output into your transmitter will work. In that case, mplayer in text mode works just like it has for the last 20+ years.

No need to tear apart a piece of old equipment of any kind to do this. Too big a box for such a thing. And why in the world must it be "audiophile grade?" I thought such snobbery was finally discredited 30 years ago. The human ear has a limited frequency response, especially the older we get. The audio response of FM radio is good for 99% of us.
