I'm assuming that this is the same Eric Stanger that was Kimmer's producer at WGST in the early 90's?

Has anyone else from WGST gone on to big national success (besides Hannity of course)?

ABCRN Ups Eric Stanger to Director/Talk Programming

ABC Radio Networks elevates Eric Stanger to Director/Talk Programming overseeing the network's lineup of talk shows including Sean Hannity, John Batchelor, MoneyTalk with Bob Brinker, Larry Elder, Mark Davis and the upcoming national debut of Mark Levin. He will report to Senior VP/Programming John McConnell, and will be based in New York City.

Stanger has been with ABC Radio Networks for ten years, starting as a morning producer at WABC-AM/New York. He later became Sean Hannity's Executive Producer at WABC. In 2000, he assumed APD duties at KABC-AM/Los Angeles. Stanger joined ABC Radio Networks in 2004 to head up affiliations for "The Sean Hannity Show." (01-23-06)

To name just a few:

Bert Parks
Peter Maer
Louise Schiavone
Neal Boortz
Clark Howard

Of course Neal and Clark.

For some reason, i always associate them with WSB, but you're right WGST had them first.

the others I have never heard of. Wasn't Phil Hendrie on WGST too as a local host back in the late 80's?

I don't recall Phil Hendrie working at WGST. As for those you've never heard of:
Bert Parks was host of the Miss America contest in Atlantic City for more than two decades. He was also a staff announcer at CBS and an NBC Radio/TV host for a variety of programs. Peter Maer was ND at WGST in the early 80's. He is now a CBS News correspondent. Louise Schiavone was a WGST reporter, now with CNN.
Finally, although Ray Charles and Little Richard were never employed by WGST, both recorded songs there in the 1950's. "I've Got a Woman," by Charles is most notable.

Actually Phil Hendrie was on WSB Radio during 1991-1992
doing a local show on Saturday nights. I would listen
to it sometimes at night when I lived near Savannah
during that time.

I think afterwards he went to Miami before moving on
to Los Angeles in the mid 1990's.

I think Molly Henneberg, FOX News' Washington DC Reporter, was a WGST intern at one time.

...and don't forget TV play-by-play man Brad Nessler, Newsman Forrest Sawyer, and TV 5's Dale Russell and Tony Thomas.

Stanger also came back to WGST two or three years ago to produce the morning show, but was let go for being overly competent.

This could be considered a stretch by some, but weekend host Sam Memmolo has been doing TV for 14 years, first with "Shadetree Mechanic" on the old TNN and now "Two Guys Garage" on Speed Channel. And, he has a national radio show, "Sam's Garage" which follows "The Car Show" on Saturday mornings. Maybe not big time in the news and general talk genre, but a hit with car enthusiasts!

Nothing against Dale and/or Tony, they are both good reporters but neither has achieved national prominence, unless you count Dale's Peabody Award.

Phil also had a stint at WCCO/830 in Minneapolis somewhere in between.

Also, IIRC, wasn't Ian Punnett a local host on WGST in the late 90's? Of course, he's now on a live early feed (9p-1a) of C2C on Saturday nights, which debuts this weekend.

Yes! Ian Punnett was a local host on WGST from 7pm-10pm
weeknights during the 1999-2000 time period. I believe he
was also briefly the morning host between 9am-Noon after
Sean Hannity left that time period with WGST to move on
to NYC where he is now on WABC.

Another onetime WGST personality who went on to MUCH bigger and better things was Paul Drew, who did evenings there in the early 60s and went on, of course, to be the national PD for the RKO chain.
