Ernie Harwell doesn't spend much time at the ballpark these days. In fact, a planned trip to Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals will be just the third Detroit Tigers game he's attended this season.

Fans of the legendary broadcaster are more likely to find the 88-year-old exercising mornings near his Novi home or making public appearances on behalf of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The latter brought Harwell to Kalamazoo on Friday, when he signed autographs during Michigan Senior Olympics track and field competition at Western Michigan University's soggy Kanley Track.

Fans are flocking to Comerica Park to watch the resurgent Tigers, but Harwell hasn't been among them. ...
