Delkus and NTX WX

On tonight's Channel 8 news Pete Delkus got a very light introduction to oftentimes unpredictable and nasty north Texas weather. No wx fireworks, fairly run of the mill weather reporting, although the potential is there for the unpredictable part of regional weather to erupt tonight and early tomorrow.

He was smooth and complete, although the true trial by fire is yet to face him when the really heavy stuff begins to fire one of these days or nights..

He did the lead story with a quick area weather summary and radar picture, then came back in the regular segment and pulled it off without a hitch. Of note was Gloria's pointed remark on the wrap, "You of course are in while Troy takes a few days off," an obvious move to ward off any viewers' presumptions that "the change" has already taken place.

I get that impression, too. Yet, when I was in Dallas a couple of weeks ago, they had "Trust Troy" billboards all over the freeways and on the side of DART buses. So, I'm kind of puzzled.<P ID="signature">______________

I'm actually sick of the whole "Troy is off so Pete is in" and "You of course are in while Troy takes a few days off" routine and adlib. Channel 8 is doing whatever they can to screw this up just as they do everything else.

Smooth transition my ass.

Yeah 10 pm was another follies . The Idaho child story was being read by John so they show a graphic of a tornado. The video switches to the Idaho Child, the crawler reads "Ross' Perot's former running mate Adm Stockdale dies",then they go to the Stockdale story and show the "McKinney 4th of July" police action again.
Meanwhile Mr.Mcaa was getting visibly upset.

They're already busy prepping velcro-able signs that will make the billboards say, "Trust Troy's Replacement".

I just don't know if Delkus is going to make it there. I really need to see more photos of his family and have Troy go back over the guy's bio on-air before I can decide...or is the "anointing" all over with now?

They mentioned quite a few times that Pete and his family were over to Troy's and had Burgers. I suggest that Troy invite all of DFW to meet Pete at his house for Burgers. I'll bring the Coors. one 12 pk only.

Maybe so, maybe not. It was 29 years ago amidst Troy's arrival that a great public outcry was saying Troy would be history in less than six months. And that upheaval followed an abrupt transition--as in cutting from Jack on
camera 1 to Troy on cam 2. So whether we talk "smooth transition" or whatever, Delkus will make it or break it based on what management decides, not what the public says it wants. Viewers' perceptions bumping up against management's decisions creates a strange dynamic. There'll then be a decent interval with Delkus on board in which Channel 8 obviously will look at the numbers and a few other factors. So you could be right, that WFAA cares not for the transition period, but then again...........

I want to know what the hell Greg Fields and Steve McCauley think of this guy coming in to run the place after they've been there for a long time. Why not move one of these guys into the lead weather guys role instead bringing in some dude from Cinci.
