Well we all know KLIF and KGO needs to take good note on how 'News and Information" brand is done. But the main difference here is that WYAY is on FM while the other 2 stations are done on AM. I think if KLIF and KGO were on FM then they could have had higher ratings but Cumulus FM stations in Dallas and SFO had good ratings there.

I SERIOUSLY doubt KLIF would do any better on FM.

KLIF has sucked for decades.

Kind of a shame considering those Call's Legacy.

A few weeks back after I started following this board again, I did some research on Cumulus. One of the things I found while doing so was a radio blog out of Atlanta that has been covering this the arrival of this Atlanta all news station. The blog is at: http://atlairwaves.blogspot.com/ Since it is on Cumulus's home turf, the writer appears to have a close up view of that outfit's going ons.

Here is a posting from earlier in May in which he speculates about the new all-news station's prospects for ratings success: http://atlairwaves.blogspot.com/2012/05/all-news-1067-rating-ppm-possibilities.html

Here is a passage from the posting that I found interesting - and if he is correct, it sounds like the on-air news staff at KLIF may not last long:

"Cumulus has announced that entertainment will be part of the programming. When Merlin introduced All News FM stations in New York and Chicago, the company tried to do an "All News Light" thing to attract younger people than traditionally listen to All News.

The result was a disaster, and the stations are still scrambling to create a product competitive to their All News rivals. Of course, we know nothing about how All News 106.7 plans to integrate entertainment into the format.

And from the comments section:

"riverdawgMay 24, 2012 1:13 PM

I predict ratings disaster for the new format. Since Cumulus took over 106.7, there has been nothing but a series of amateurish missteps from music programming to on-air talent choice. The news format will have to be largely national in scope, not local. It would simply cost too much to run a credible 24/7 locally oriented news operation to compete with Cox/WSB/AJC. Cumulus will hire a bunch of former CNN Radio people and run that format through its existing station network. This won't end well for Cumulus, but radio networks are operated by a bunch of tone-deaf boneheads."

And here are some interesting quotes from a previous posting on April 30. See: http://atlairwaves.blogspot.com/2012/04/cumulusatlanta-set-to-make-news.html

If true, the following will presumably have an impact for some unfortunate former ABC/Citadel people locally:

"Meanwhile, SweetJack call handlers moved into the Interstate North space. ABC Radio Network's operations people were rumored to be relocating from Dallas to the facility as well."

WYAY's launch was top-notch today, I could count all mistakes on one hand. Much better than Merlin's stations- broad local focus and very resourceful news department. Not a #CumulusFail at all.

WYAY is more like KCBS in San Francisco rather than Cumulus's other station KGO-AM in SFO.

Moving to FM will never happen, don't know how long WBAP will on 96.7 neither.

This station allnews106.7 is really a good start to an all news station. As someone who listens to out of market radio stations I think that allnews106.7 compares with News92.1 in Houston. And KRLD runs during morning drive time too many commercials and less news. They need to go back to 24 hour news as they had in the late 80's when Metromedia owned KRLD.
