Cox Media Group

Are these guys staying in their respective markets or are they moving to Atlanta?

A month after Cox hired Steve Smith as Director of Radio Programming, it designates eight current programmers as format leaders, reporting to Smith. CMG says "they will act as internal consultants for CMG's leadership team and will provide insight into specific local formats based on their expertise." They are:

- CHR: Jeremy Rice of Long Island's WBLI (106.1).
- Adult contemporary: Steve Hunter of CMG's Tulsa cluster.
- Rock: Michael "Shark" Sharkey of Tampa (modern rock "97X" WSUN, rock "Bone" WHPT).
- Classic Rock: To be handled by Steve Smith directly.
- Urban: Split between Tony Kidd, of CMG-Atlanta and Phil Trueba of "Hot 105" WHQT, Miami.
- Country: Split between Len Shackelford of CMG-Orlando and Randy Chase of KCYY "Y100" San Antonio.
- News/Talk: Nick Roberts of CMG-Ohio (Dayton and Louisville).

Ben Reed is Group Vice President of Cox Media Group.

As I understand it, they're staying in their respective markets. They may, however, log some extra frequent flier miles by flying to Atlanta from time-to-time.

There's a hell of a concept eh? Get guys from markets that have great success and let them help program. And, give them the tools to do it up right, which in this case includes a jet. Nice going!
