Canadian Radio News announced via Facebook this morning that Montreal's CKLX, better known as Planete Jazz 91.9, has applied to modify their jazz / smooth jazz / blues format. Here is the info.
(CRTC) 50% TALK PROGRAMMING PLANNED FOR CKLX 91.9 MONTREAL
Radio Nord has applied to amend the specialty license for CKLX 91.9 in Montreal. The proposed changes would see Spoken Word programming comprise 50% of the broadcast week schedule. The existing fulltime Jazz, Blues, and Special Interest Music programming will make up the other 50%.
-Canadian Radio News, via Facebook.
CKLX only garnered a 0.6 share amongst Anglophone listeners in the last ratings book for Montreal, and a 1.3 share amongst Francophones, neither of which are too promising. It is my guess that the proposed modification would be designed to help them build on that. However, it will put them up against FM talk powerhouse 98.5 FM (CHMP), which had a 19.8 share amongst Francophone listeners, but only a 0.9 share amongst Anglophones.
