CHRISTMAS MUSIC TAKES HUGE SHARE OF LISTENING IN LATEST RATINGS UPDATE

The Holiday 2011 rating period which covers most of December and the first few days of January shows that KSFI and KOSY are kings of the hill when it comes to ratings during the month with their 24/7 Christmas music airing. KSFI in fact was the number one station, rating-wise, in the entire USA with a 16.0 share of the market. KOSY placed a solid second with a 7.2 share.
The cume audience for the top two stations was 1,448,600 listeners. That is how many listeners tuned in to one of those two stations for at least 15 minutes during the Holiday rating period. Considering the 6+ audience is estimated to be at 1,734,000 people, a whopping 83.5% of Utahns enjoyed Christmas music on the radio.
The remainder of the top ten included: KSL AM/FM, KZHT, KXRK, KJMY, KRSP, KUBL, KODJ, KSOP FM.
To further show how Christmas music fuels the ratings, see the November, December, Holiday shares side by side:
KSFI
7.0, 9.0, 16.0
KOSY
2.8, 6.4, 7.2
KUBL has lost 2.4 share points from a 6.1 to a 3.7 over the last 90 days. Most of their staff hightailed it to Seattle to join KMPS 94.1. KODJ also has lost two share points from a 5.4 to a 3.4 over the last 90 days. Most other stations have stayed pretty much the same.
