CASH COW 105.3 THE FAN

In this month's Radio Ink magazine (page 27), there is a story about the new ESPN New York. On the same page is a factoid about Sports on FM where they mention the "top five revenue generators": WEEI-FM, WBZ-FM, KRLD-FM, WIP-FM and WJFK-FM. I believe the source is BIA/Kelsey.

Revenue is different from profit, but I don't think The Fan is going anywhere, despite the poor 6+ numbers you all like to revel in.

I am surprised WXYT didn't make the top five though.

how about these numbers....from Barry Horn

Here's a look at local sports-talk ratings for April in the key "men 25-54" demographic. Tomorrow I will break it down show by show.

Monday-Sunday 6 a.m. to midnight
The Ticket -- 6.2 (No. 1 overall in the market)
ESPN -- 3.5 (No. 9)
The Fan -- 1.8 (No. 26)

Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to midnight
The Ticket -- 7.5 (No. 1)
ESPN -- 3.8 (No. 7)
The Fan -- 2.0 (No. 23)

Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Ticket -- 8.3 (No. 1)
ESPN -- 3.5 (No. 9)
The Fan -- 2.0 (No. 22)

"The Ticket's Hardline scored the most-dominant hour of the week. At 4 p.m. daily, the show averaged a 12.4 share, which means one out of every eight men 25-54 in the market with radios turned on where listening.

Ticket lineup: Dunham & Miller (7.4); Norm Hitzges (6.9); BaD Radio (7.3); Hardline (9.8).

ESPN lineup: Mike & Mike (4.3); Ben & Skin (2.3); The Herd (3.2); Coop & Nate (3.8); Galloway and Company (3.4).

Fan lineup: Shan & R.J. (2.0); Elf (2.2); Richie & Greggo (2.0)."

There is absolutely no way KRLD-FM is top 5 in revenue...hell, there's no way they are top 50 in revenue.

Dallas is market 5 and 105.3 is one of the best signals in the area. The Fan also holds the rights to the biggest pro-team in the state.

It's not terribly surprising that they bill decently compared to other FM sports stations even though they have a lot of haters and the ratings are underwhelming.
