Bobby Rich Announces Retirement

Good for ol' Bobby...

With Bustos running the show, who slips into that seat when Bobby vacates it?

I hope his share of the proceeds from the sale (I understand he was a co-owner) give him a little extra for a nice retirement in Tucson... he earned it!

Yes he absolutely has earned it. I had the pleasure of working with Bobby for a few years when I lived in Tucson.

The first year we lived there, it snowed on Easter Sunday. Snow...in Tucson AZ!

What did Bobby do? Why, of course he ran down to the radio station, got on the air and aired calls from excited listeners.

You won't find a radio guy who is more passionate about the business than Bobby. I would not be surprised to hear about him "un" retiring from time to time.

Bobby was PD at KSTT in Davenport in the early 60’s and was a mentor to Captain Steve, the owner of KCJJ. He’s always had nice things to say about him. He said this morning that the only other person he knows who’s been in radio as long as he has is Bobby and he can’t believe he’s retiring. He sounds like a great guy.

My guess would be that the station was sold at least partly because he was ready to retire. Can't blame him for that. I'm hoping I don't have to stay in the workforce for more than another seven years myself!

For the math to work out, my thinking is Bobby is in his mid-70's.

EDIT: His liners and station ID is still being used.

The sale price of that station, divided among three apparent partners, does not leave much of anything to any of them.

I'm thinking they got just a shade over what they bought the station from family life radio.
