I could be wrong, but Jerry Cantrell has a lot of respect in the Seattle area. I will almost guarantee he made some calls to Buzz management today, and I bet Sgt. Hairclub will be ripping BJ a new one over this little incident. They were totally going after each other today..it was great!!

Jerry Cantrell was the guitarist and co-founder of Alice In Chains, one of the biggest bands to come from the Seattle grunge explosion of the early '90s. Thier hits included "Man In The Box", "Sea Of Sorrow", "We Die Young" "Would?", "Rooster", "Again", "Heaven Beside You" and their AC radio crossover "No Excuses". After other Alice In Chains co-founder Layne Staley died of a heroin overdose in April 2002, Jerry went on to play guitar briefly for Ozzy Osbourne. He formed Cardboard Vampyres last year with former members of The Cult.

He does have a lot of respect as one of rock's most famous and sought after guitarists.

Thank you Larry, as if anyone involved in radio in SEATTLE wouldn't know who Jerry Cantrell is.

Here's what pi$$ed off Jerry Cantrell...

> I missed it. What happened?

> Yes, please, do tell.

BJ does a Friday radio "Round Table" feature where he brings local politicos, media people, visiting celebs, etc. into the studio to chat about the issues of the day and take phone calls.

Apparently Jerry was all up for doing the show - and to hype his new band - but he refused to come INTO the studio. He said he'd only do it if it were by phone.

BJ took offense at this, especially since he'd heard Jerry on other local radio stations live in studio. BJ took it from there to rip on Cantrell's new band, saying that no one would have any interest if it were just ANY new band. And just because Cantrell was involved it didn't mean it was BETTER than any other new band. From there he went into a tirade about how radio and promotions and record companies have become so corporate. And how if Cantrell's new band were any good, why would the best local venue he could muster only seated 1000 people?

And on and on.

And now you know the REST . . . . . . . . .

. . . . of the story.

Re: Here's what pi$$ed off Jerry Cantrell...

YOu almost have your facts straight there Dan. BJ wanted Cantrell to do the Round Table a live segment done on Fridays with guests in Studio, never on the phone since it began, and Cantrell declined and asked if they could do a phone interview which BJ's producer said okay to without informing BJ.

BJ was upset with getting blind sided with a phone interview because he doesn't do Interview on his show normally by phone or otherwise. And once he got the whole story he was upset with Cantrell who's apparent excuse for not doing the live segment he was invited to do was because he could not get up that early (Noon).

It doesn't matter. It just proves the rule with BJ. Any sort of conflict or controversy is fodder. Instead of just doing an interview segment with Jerry Cantrell (which would have been interesting) he derails and once again, he *talks* about doing the show, instead of just *doing the show*. Ho hum. Eating up airtime with stupid bickering seems to be his strong suit, actually.<P ID="signature">______________

So the host took a fit because there was a lack of communication on the part of his staff, and instead of ironing it out on-air, the way Howard might have done, the host instead decides to take it out on Jerry Cantrell? That's not just ridiculous, it's also lazy. Lazy problem solving and cause and effect. Why smear Jerry Cantrell? Because he asked to be on the phone instead of in person and it wasn't communicated to him the host prefers all his guests live? Jerry's a good guy and a great songwriter and guitarist beloved by a lot of Seattlelites and music fans. Why doesn't the host just rail on Chris Cornell or Mark Arm for a bit while he's at it? I mean, how self-centered can you be?

And yeah, NOON...get over it people. It's called Rock Star Standard Time, and it's a living fact those are the times musicians and other creative folks operate on. Anyone in radio knows that; that's why you hire a producer who understands these things and can adequately communicate them to potential guests.
