Give us all a break.

If a jock name doesn't sound good, how fast will the PD make you change it (or change it for you)?

Thanks for the sarcasim, their are PLENTY of bad sounding jock names out there, and NO I was not naming EVERY JOCK OUT THERE!!!! No wonder SF radio sucks so bad, OK now here are the worst sounding names,,,, steven seaweed, cammie blackstone, ron parker, joe ike, sterling james, big von???, super snake????, I remember in radio back when it was good, you HAD to have a cool sounding name, a catchy name, one that stuck in everybody's head, which is why EVAN LUCK comes to mind, or THEO, or RENEL, these are names that people still remember even today, of course renel is still working in bay area radio. I was just trying to get a poll going and you guys had to act stupid and make fun of my posts. I'm telling ya, SF needs to get it's act together for a top 5 market they are starting to sound small town. changes need to be made and quick.

Hey you all:

What happened to Dr Don Rose???

Remember Big 610 KFRC???

Seems like you guys are not picking favorite jock names, just jocks you liked. To be a good name, like a brand, it should be memorable. Two that come to mind (showing my age): Bill Ballance (an LA jock form the 50s and 60s - and later talk host).
John Mack Flanagan is another memorable name. Yeah, I like the guy, but always thought his name was instantly memorable. 'John Flanagan' not so much, and Johnny Flanagan didn't sound right -so I guess the 'Mack' made it memorable.

I have no idea if either Ballance or JMF used their real names, or not. Doesn't matter - they were still good names.

Those rhyming title names always stick - 'The Real Don Steele,' not to mention 60s and 70s FM jock 'The Obscene Steven Clean.' Somebody mentioned Dancin' Mark Hansen...same thing.

'K.O. Bailey' (real name Bob Elliot) was memorable enough to young Oakland radio listener Tom Hanks that he referred to it later in his 1996 film - That Thing You Do

'Humble Harve' in LA actually used his real name on air for the first part of his career - Harvey Miller.

John Mack Flanagan was his birth name. Bill Ballance's real name was Willis Ballance. He always went by "Bill" as a kid.
This is accurate since I worked with Bill Ballance at KNBR in 1968 and I also worked with John Mack Flanagan at KFRC.

Dunno if it's germane, but the most memorable air name I can think of was this Metro Traffic reporter who went by "Diamond Lane" on Chanel #104.9 back in the day...

Years ago there was a regular ad in the Radio and Records classified section from a personality looking for work.

He went by "Cleat Dumpster" and he claimed he had a trademark on the moniker.

Memorable names. There was an Eastbay DJ for a few years, Frank Champion. His real name. There was a Bryce Stewart in Sac for a time. I liked that name, too.

I was "Scott Taylor" for a year or so until a porn star with that name came on the scene (so to speak), and I ditched the name.
