Best Audio?

Which station do you think has the best audio in our market. Of course this is very subjective. What one person thinks is good another may not agree. Put programming, personalities, and ownership aside. Who do you think has the best sound quality. My two cents has WUSF so very clean...it hurts! WRBQ is my pick from the commercial stations. DUV wins as best "analog". The Point is good on my ears. The Eagle is loud and clean. The Bone (good grief couldn't they come up with something better than that) is also nice and loud and clean.
QYK is pressing the window a bit, however, always right there. US103.5 has a good sound. 106.3 (WJBQ) needs some serious help. What do you think?

You are correct, this is all subjective to a person's ear and taste. Also location, I don't get good audio from WRBQ and WQYK at home (stations are co-located on a building downtown) but they both sound fine at my work.

Otherwise, my #1 pick goes to 107.3. They are always crisp without being a "wall of sound". I also hear good lows and highs.

Worst, 100.7. Sounds over processed to me. Every time they open the mic, with no other audio playing, just a person talking, I can hear a whistle in the background. It has been like that for years. Clear Channel is usually known for pretty good engineering, I'm suprised 100.7 has always sounded so bad.

I think 101.5 sounds too over processed as well. Amazing that Cox owns 107.3 which sounds great and 101.5 which sounds too thick. A good test is, when you listen for 20 minutes and then turn the station off, do you get a sense of relief. This is called listener fatigue and will kill your "time spent listening" in the ratings.

Another point, I just bought a new car. The radio sounds good on all the FM stations, I checked it out in the test drive of course. But, I was shocked when I switched it to AM. The AM band sounds horrible. So much worse than "normal" AM on other car radios I've had. It is clear they didn't spend any $ on the AM portion of this car radio. Really hurts AM when it is difficult to even listen to voice programming because the audio range is so bad.

So very true regarding car AM radios. Appears that the newer the car, the worse the AM radio is.

I agree

This has been my experience too. My first car was a 1989 Dodge with AM Stereo and the AM sound was beautiful! With every car I've bought since then it's gotten progressively worse.

Re: I agree

Must have been a K car and don't want to admit it LOL! My first one was a 83 Dodge Aries (P.O.S. but looked great) and yes, the AM sounded great compared to my 01 Chevy S10 and my wife's 03 Chevy Cavalier.

Since we are talking about stereos, both of my car's Bass/Treble presets(ie rock, pop, jazz, classical, etc.)are terrible. Put it on rock and you can forget about it. Sounds like the bass is turned all the way up with the treble turned all the way down. In my truck I just set every station to the POP setting and it seems to sound pretty good when on a rock station and the Cavalier (RDS style stereo) is set to MANUAL with the bass and treble at half and it sounds pretty good that way. This is for FM stations. When I listen to 970, well the TALK setting on the radio....forget about it, I still have to set it POP to get any good audio quality.

Rant over.
