Returned recently from a cross-country road trip. Listed to a a lot of public radio in the car and I was particularly impressed with Arizona Public Radio across Northern Arizona (Flagstaff and other cities). There really wasn't a lot of difference between the local "sound" and the NPR "sound." Not only that, but in a relatively small market they are able to operate two networks across a fairly large area - and do it well. It's one thing for big operations like Minnesota Public Radio or Wisconsin Public Radio to pull this off but for a smaller operation, it seems exceptional. I read in an old post that they dominate local market ratings. That's impressive, too.
I'm out of area. I'm curious to see what local radio people have to say about them. How do they do it?
If anybody from the station trolls this board: Hats off.
