AM IBOC Bitrate

I'm having trouble finding any reliable information about the specs of AM IBOC. Can someone tell me the bitrate and sample rate their AM IBOC is using? I've seen numbers from 32Kbps to 48Kbps as the rate for AM... and can't find anything on Ibiquity's website.

I believe that the max bitrate is 32kbps, and it can fall back to 20kbps, dependent upon data integrity. The latter is only mono, and the 32kbps mode is stereo. They use the parametric stereo method, where the audio is mono and the stereo information (L-R) is transmitted as a data sub-set. Thus, the codec quality remains the same if the transmission is in either the 32kbps or 20kbps mode.

You can't split that and send multiple programs on AM, can you? Also, does IBOC's FM codec use that method for stereo?

To my best understanding of the IBOC system, I don't believe you can split the AM system at all.

I don't know about the FM system regarding stereo, whether or not they use the parametric method. BUT...I will say that this scheme works very well. It is used in the surround system and provides exceptional channel seperation.

Conclave

Frank--

Are you going to be at Conclave this year?
