Yesterday (6/2) during Midday News, they mentioned a story about a building in downtown Dallas. Didn't pay attention to the story or what it was about but on the caption the word 'building' was misspelled. It was spelled 'buildding.' So much for spell check.<P ID="signature">______________

A side effect of the spray could be that over weight folks would be truthful about how much they actually weigh. (Just trying to help make some kind of sense over what takes place on their newscasts.)

If only it were that simple.

Misspellings on “live programming” closed captioning are common across every network (and even some cable TV channels). It has to do with the technology used. The keyboards the operator uses are basically similar to what you find in courts. Don’t blame WFAA for a misspelled word in the closed captioning. It’s not necessarily their fault.

Yes, typos in closed captioning often result from technological issues rather than human error. Nonetheless, the declining spelling/grammar skills of some television graphics people are oftentimes painfully obvious, and not at just the local level. While one East Texas station supered a doctor as being a "Brest Cancer Surgeon," the Discovery Channel gave the title "Chaplin" to a minister serving in the Army. Couldn't help but wonder if he is perhaps kin to Charlie.
