And my Mom (who for some reason loved EDDIE CANTOR more than Jack Benny...we worked it out though) says (she was born in 1917) that they would look at the radio set in the living room as they all listened together!
She also remembers people talking about television in the 1920's!

...in 1928, WCFL Chicago operated its own experimental television station, W9XAA. http://www.earlytelevision.org/w9xaa.html has images of WCFL's own documentation of that project...
