A Child's Christmas In Wales

In the past, Mo Lausier of WRKO would play a tape of Jerry Williams' reading of a "Child's Christmas in Wales. It was a better reading than Dylan Thomas' own reading and should be heard every year just as "Its A Wonderful Life" is run every Christmas season.

Since Jerry is now part of the ages I think any station could run a copy of Jerry's reading. Both Paula O'Connor and Eric Caldwell over at 96.9 produced Jerry's show on WRKO and could probably get a copy and play it on one of their "live and local" talk shows - Barnicle or Egan/Braude.

I have the feeling that WRKO is no longer interested in sustaining Jerry Williams memory on its station - kills its demographic perhaps. So, if they are not interested I think it would be a generous and worthy gesture for WTKK to broadcast Jerry Williams' reading of "A Child's Christmas in Wales".

Let 96.9 continue the tradition.

An interesting bit of literature, regardless by whom read.
"A Child's Christmas....." is usually performed as a play
though Thomas wrote it as a radio play. So, the Jerry Williams
version honors not only a tradition but also the intent of
the author.

Definitely not suitable for broadcast, though written by
Dylan Thomas as a BBC radio play, you might enjoy "Under Milk
Wood". Now, it's not for everybody. It's long and the original
recording is in a stilted style but I could imagine it being
re-read by a contemporary voice. It would be tough to resist
a temptation to do some re-wording to get from then then-
current terms into today's vernacular but one might hope the
producer DOES resist.

There is a facinating and tragic story concerning the only
Dylan Thomas narrated version. A story I won't get into here.
But I do wonder if anyone on this board has ever experienced
the play!
