KQV to go off air after Dec 31

Bob Stevens Has apply to move KQV'S Transmitter 15 miles southeast of its current site using 5 kw day non directional. The current day pattern uses 3 towers , KQV has no signal in Butler. I wonder why they did not try going non directional day?

KQV could not have gone non-directional from its existing site. They already were "grandfathered in" with more interference to 1400 Wheeling and other stations than is permissible under present rules. By moving KQV to the WEDO tower, Bob is able to go non-directional and slightly reduce the amount of interference caused to the other stations. Coverage of the city of Pittsburgh will not be quite as good, however, because of the additional distance of the WEDO tower from Pittsburgh proper.

not to question your decision but 1400 WBBD is 47 miles line of site to the current KQV Transmitter location, WEDO is 51 miles Line of site. What Difference does 4 miles make.

Read Bob's application for 5 KW ND and you'll understand. It's available at the FCC web site.

It is, in fairness, a little more complicated than that.

KQV could absolutely have gone ND daytime from its existing site; it simply would have had to reduce power somewhere (not much) below 5 kW in order not to increase existing interference to WBBD. There's ample reason to believe that the existing KQV facility could have been improved - had the money been available and had the value of the underlying land not ended up far exceeding the value of the license.

That's entirely correct. My answer was predicated on 5 KW ND from the existing site, which would not have been permitted under the present rules.

And Clarksburg, West Virginia too. Difference in power, difference in class of channel, grandfathering.

And Oil City on 1340 as well, which limited Grove City to a few hours a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings per an agreement drawn up in the early-30's.

I have received both WBBD and KQV loud and clear on route 79 north
Until I hit the Bridgeville exit. 13 miles line of site from KQV 'S xmitter site.then lost WBBD.

I found KQV on the air again last night at 5:30 airing Bloomberg Business News. It remained on all night (apparently at full power, with no legal ID's) until sometime after 6AM this morning.

The CP to move to WEDO Mckeesport site was granted June 8 2018. KQV 5kw non directional day,75 watts non directional night.

Is it possible for KQV to get 500 watts PSA and PSSA now that's its going to be a Daytimer?

Almost certainly they will get something. It may not be precisely 500 watts, but the FCC has computer programs that will calculate the interference to other stations and assign the appropriate power level(s).

KQV is not going to be a daytimer, unless they elect not to use the 75-watt nighttime signal allotted by their Construction Permit.

And even if they were going to be officially a daytimer, with no nighttime authorization, most PSRAs and PSSAs are nowhere near 500 watts.
