The Beat moves to 96.1

iHeart filed to swap the calls yesterday:

Radio 105.7’s ghost lives on with WRDG!
I’m surprised they didn’t take this opportunity to change the calls for the Beat. I’ve noticed the new Power sounds very generic and the playlist is super tight. Some of the same songs playing twice an hour. Reminds me of 95-5 the Beat when it first came on air. 10,000 songs in a row playing the same 20 songs over and over except they have commercials here. Feels like they’re rotating the top 10 songs right now and sprinkling in some 2000s/2010s songs every now and then. No recurrents. I guess they have to order new imaging.

um, why is Power 105.3 logo black and white?? Also, I tuned in on the app and it sounded like those commercial free Top 40
Stations. In other words, very underwhelming.

Call letters only matter for ad buyers who see them on a spreadsheet. They want to ensure the buyers currently buying Beat and Power continue to do so on the new frequencies so need consistency with the format.

Power has switched from being locally programmed to one of iHeart's national logs with the frequency swap. Only differences will be in mornings when 105.3 has Jubal.

I was thinking the same thing. The only think I could find was this podunk 6000-watt station out of Tignall, Georgia WSGC-FM 105.3 MHz - Tignall, GA

Why doesnt iHM just buy em out?
iHeart could try to move them to another frequency. When the station that is now 105.3 was sold to Clear Channel, it had just moved from being a Class A at 105.5 with the old WYAI callsign that 104.1 (then out of LaGrange) used back in the day when Y106 was doing the twin-tower thing.

There is also the issue with keeping spacing with, at the very least, 105.7 and the one-time Clear Channel station in Clermont at 105.1 that's now K-Love, plus other first- and second-adjacents. A class A all the way out near Elberton is probably the least of the worries.

The shame is that 105.1 and 105.3 could have about covered the market after 105.1 upgraded from a class A to a C3, except for weakness in Gwinnett. CC did do simulcasts with 105.1 and 105.7 at one point. Very effective for picking up the Hispanic market in NE GA, including Gainesville.

So, iHeart is using “Power” as a Rhythmic brand, yet the Atlanta version is Mainstream. Could’ve used that as a flanker.

The national playlist matches exactly what is playing on our Power. This playlist looks more mainstream than rhythmic. Not sure if this was mentioned before but would it be smarter to move the format more of an adult direction like Hot AC? Not that I want it to. I personally prefer mainstream top 40 over Hot AC.

I check the WBZY signal they don't cover the southern gaps on Atlanta suburbs but I would be suprising how parts of the northern Atlanta might not get the OTA signal unless u stream on iHeart in terms of ratings.

IIRC 105.7 also is heard on 96.7, WBZW:

105.7 is an excellent signal North of Interstate 20

it's Height above Average terrain is 781 feet which isn't shabby with 20KW. That's very close to a class B coverage.

What a waste of a signal. Could've put something different like an AC or Adult Hits. People aren’t going to be tuning in to 105.3.

Apparently they want to go after the V. My best guess current morning show is just a "holder" till they can get Frank Ski legally. I hope iHeart realizes: with is that with all recoding studio history in Atlanta, a generic morning show without a lot of local segments will not cut it here.

IMHO: IF iHeart was really serious about this, they should have made 105.3 a form of Urban AC or Old School aimed at 25+. "Fanker" stations have worked in other formats. They could clear the syndicated commercials for the old 96.1 format they inherited on 105.3, that's all the national buyers care about. I question how much revenue from national Hispanic is there on 105.7. I am familiar with their transmitter site and it is "line of site" almost to the airport. With those three signals programmed correctly, they could really dominate the space.

There's an old saying "go big or go home."

I am really surprised Davis hasn't gotten a larger part the national Hispanic buys. But I guess it's like Country verses CHR or AC in English programming. But almost everyone on this site feels 105.7 is "free money" for iHeart.

I think 96.1 The Beat will work. Local or not, The Breakfast Club is a strong morning show and does well in most markets. Charlamagne is from South Carolina and has a loyal following down here. Just put somebody strong and local in afternoons and they’re good.

Hot has a weak morning show, doesn’t have the local presence that they used to and has some signal limitations. Streetz is on a translator and will never be competitive. I think The Beat can end up being a strong #2 to V.

Frank Ski is not joining the new station.

If so, at some point, Power will be dropped by Billboard and Mediabase as chart reporters, leaving Q as the only Top 40 reporter in Atlanta.

Not necessarily. There are quite a few iHeart custom stations still on Mediabase as individual reporters.
