Probably will get a new set of call letters with this latest change. Interesting that they have had two sets of heritage call letters, without ever having been a "heritage" station, itself.

WPLN is going off 1430 at noon today. Not sure if it will just go dark temporarily or if Kensington will start with the new station.

Where are you hearing this? I'm not seeing anything related to this.

The online stream keeps it going because it came from 90.3 WPLN-HD3 where its still available, whereas 1430 WPLN itself is now dead and waiting to be switched to a new format under new management.

For a while, I thought there was some dead air. Then the Mama's and Papa's started singing a cappella. The AM isn't getting one of the stereo channels. I'm sure work is not done yet.
I see the call sign was just approved and the licensee was changed in the database. How cool!

The work will be done to take three of the four towers down. A few more tweaks to get the processing right. Then the magic of real estate will start. Mono Mamas and The Poppin Papas? I guess the first DJ on the AM was Grateful Ed in afternoon drive then about 3:50.

Do you work there? Is the simulcast permanent? It might just be me but the signal seems stronger now here in Murfreesboro compared to when it was WPLN. I dont know if it's the difference between music and talk. But it seems to me to sound better.

It'll seem like it now that the signal is modulating nicely. When it was airing BBC World Service, the modulation was pretty low and not at all aggressive.

A modification application was submitted for WYGI proposing:
(1) Erecting a replacement tower for the four that is proposed to be removed. The replacement tower is slightly taller than any one of the four that are there now.
(2) Power increase from 15 kW to 19 kW to make up for decreased efficiency with a shorter ground system.
(3) Reclassification of WYGI from Class B to Class D with night power reduction to 30 watts.

The replacement tower is to be near the south tower. Along with the shorter ground, it looks that this is to reduce WYGI's real estate footprint. WQZQ's licensee has not submitted a modification application to move to the new tower yet (not that I could find, but LMS is a real piece of work), however, WYGI's application exhibits seem to have worked in WQZQ's move to the new tower with a increase in power to 3 kW.
