iHeart and me

LOL! Not only Valerie Smaldone, I think WLTW basically ended replacing their whole staff, replacing them with cheaper talent, and added their own syndication product, Delilah.

ANd WLTW is one of the top revenue generators for the company.

Indeed the turnover was quite extensive. I singled out Ms. Smaldone because she was one of the most popular personalities in the Tri-State area. Matthew Flamm's 2008 article in Crain's New York Business sums things up fairly well: Valerie Smaldone leaving Lite FM.

And how did those personnel changes affect the ratings and revenue of the station?

I was referring to your comment: "However, the ax never hit the prime stations like KIIS or WHTZ, the big revenue generators."

WLTW is indeed one of their "big revenue generators"...and the "ax hit".

Hearing that WZLX has dropped its Sun night local music show, Boston Emissions

Angelle Wood: "NEWS | Sunday, May 6, 2018 was the final broadcast on 100.7 WZLX. While the show will leave its long-held Sunday at 10pm slot, I will continue as host at a new home after a short break. I am not mad or sad. I welcome this new beginning that affords me the freedom to promote Boston music. I do remain part of the WZLX airstaff and, after 12+ years, I consider the people I work with there friends."

Talk1200 is becoming RKO on the weekends...holy bleep, paid programming for financial shows.

Gotta pay the bills somehow.

Sunday afternoon there was a genealogy show on RKO between noon and 1.

On the web site, there is a listing for "Shortsleeve and Shack" at 1pm. Wonder if its Sandy?

I know. It's also neither KIIS or WHTZ. So what's the answer to my question?

In 2008, when those changes happened, the entire country was hit by the great recession. That year the radio industry had a 10% drop in revenue. Lots of people were asked to make cuts that year, not just iHeart. At the time, WLTW was experiencing a bit of a ratings dip. After replacing a few people, the station returned to the top of the ratings.

So in answer to my question, WLTW improved its ratings and revenue as a result of the changes.

Hearing that iHeart's WZLX cancelled not only local music show Boston Emissions but also their Sunday Morning Blues..someone said on FB a new blues show coming Sun nights in Bos Emission's slot though.

Carter posted that his new Sunday night show will be a "deep classic rock" specialty show with "stories behind the music". Maybe he can work in some blues/blues-rock, but that is what they wanted him to do. I'm sure it will be good because Carter knows his stuff, but it won't be specifically a blues show.

Breakfast with the Beatles GONE... ( thank God for Sirius XM Channel 18)

Sunday Morning Blues gone .. (thank God for Blues Deluxe on WUML)

Boston Emissions, ( formerly WBCN's Nocturnal Emissions ) gone after decades on the air...

Someone (RKO??? Iheart???) screwed up...."Sandy" Shack and Joe Shortsleeve were not on the air today on RKO even though the RKO Sunday schedule said they would be.

no mention of Nancy or Joe on the official WRKO website linked above, to say nothing of the last place they worked was the late 1510 WMEX and that was almost a year ago.

BUT they are mentioned here https://wrko.iheart.com/schedule/ more proof IHrts websites suck

The RKO schedule you posted says it's from 5 months ago so joe and sandy would not be on that schedule. The Iheart link had them on the schedule all last week and they appear on the schedule again for this week.

"Sanchez fills the opening at WBZ created by the exit of Peter Casey in November 2017 following the spin-off of the station from CBS Radio to iHeartMedia."

Got to love the term "exit" as it is used in radio, how about "after long time WBZ radio exec Peter Casey was walked to the door and told iHeartMedia security would send him his personal property from his office after they examined it"

....how about "after long time WBZ radio exec Peter Casey was walked to the door and told iHeartMedia security would send him his personal property from his office after they examined it"

How about "Peter Casey says he has no problems with iHeart, and they treated him well!" (An almost actual quote.)

It takes Talk1200 three days to get their act together. Every Monday and most Tuesdays they air the news broadcast from the prior Thursday and the traffic report from either the prior Thursday or Friday nite. Also included in the days old newscast is the weather - it's kind of funny listening to the repeat of the news w/weather and then hear the current weather forecast. I don't understand why this constantly happens. I emailed them about two weeks ago and asked for a response and they have yet to respond.
