It's sad to see so called "experts" who claim to have "inside information" saying mean-spirited things about people when they are too cowardly to stand behind their words by posting under their real names. You can debate the failure of the station or the decisions that were made all you want without the ad hominem, personal attacks.
Can we debate what caused Daly XXL to fail?
Maybe someone has some inside knowledge.... a consultant maybe.
So we have someone with a 1% ownership position, and their consultant, who ... well lets go to the tape...
" Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and feedback on issues pertaining to Programming, Operations, and Sales for a 50,000 watt News/Talk station in Boston (market #10); create strategies for counter programming; write, produce, and record imaging and promotional content to connect with listeners and clients; identify revenue growth opportunities and techniques for prospecting and business development; instrumental in compiling company employee policies; ensure FCC compliance "
I'll let the board draw their own conclusions, but I hope the invoices were paid and the checks cleared, because this was either a bad case of ownership not listening to their consultant ( my vote) or complete and total incompetence.
I'm just an old guy with nothing better to do than second guess the people who are supposed to know something about the industry from the comfort of my recliner. I know nothing about the business. But for the life of me, can't think of an AM that tanked to the point of a STA in a bigger way than WMEX.
Brad Bleidt's fall from grace was probably more public, but at least the station lived on... and 1060 was not 1510.
Daly XXL had 2 years plus to get onto another tower.... instead they flew it all the way to the scene of the crash. I have yet to hear anyone explain how this happened? Forget the programming issues, lets talk tech. What steps, if any, were taken to move the transmitter?
