Musical selections that seem out of character

I watched the movie "Burlesque" over the weekend. That has a lot of good music in it. Not soft, but the kind I am comfortable with. Now Music Lover probably wouldn't find the lyrics family-friendly and it is true when they're no worse than these I wouldn't have a problem with it. A lot of TV series I watched as a child had this style of music.

These are a couple of examples of the kind of lyrics I refer to as not being family-friendly:

Blurred Lines is another example of a song with lyrics that's not family-friendly. http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/robinthicke/blurredlines.html

Pushing the boundaries for artistic expression has always been a part of popular music but there are times when the envelope is pushed too far.

On Monday, for some reason there was no local morning show, and I heard Jeff Rollins play Dean Martin. He's not unheard of on this station's local morning show but it would be unusual.

Yesterday, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears. Seriously? What could he be THINKING? That one shouldn't even be in the BUILDING.

Naturally I changed stations.

Now I did benefit. Not sure where this should go, but since it's related ...

A man lives on the line between Iredell and Alexander Counties. Iredell is the location of the classic country station whose morning DJ was carrying on this silliness with someone whose name I didn't hear, and it's where a man's house is. His outhouse is in Alexander. So from time to time he will say, "I have to go visit Alexander".

"If Tomorrow Never Comes" was a song by Garth Brooks I didn't like back in the day but it's sounds good now.

"Aimee" by Pure Prairie League always sounded good.

So should I turn back? NO! That Titanic song sounds as bad as it ever did. But it doesn't belong in this thread because even the very conservative Music of Your Life (when it was still Jones) played it.

I'm so glad the regular morning DJ is back on my usual station.

Friday, I don't know what they could have been thinking. "I Wanna Dance with Somebody"? I don't care if it WAS a request. You can't play garbage like that on this type of station.

On the classic country station, which now calls itself "real country", there was a funny song about being a winner, but I don't know the artist or title. I just know it included laughter.

Lots of good country songs. But I have to go back.

"Hotel California"? Seriously? Did I mention this morning DJ is the son of the one who normally does the job and used to won the station? But I thought he had learned his lesson.

Off-topic, but the man who is normally the morning DJ is back this week. And the music reflects this. A group that sounds like the Andrews Sisters singing about Mississippi Mud. Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" by Pete Fountain.

And, of course, the oldies that America's Best Music does not seem to play (though the first two above don't get played either). "Blueberry Hill" was once on Stardust. Not sure about "Alley Oop".

This may not have happened.

I had to get out of the car and didn't hear what happened while I was in the building.

But I heard "Heart of Rock and Roll" when I got back in the car.

It was past time for network news, though. Soon, I could sort of hear network news. Then the news got louder, though I could hear Simon and Garfunkel in the background. I have heard a different station at times. It just seemed so clear at that one location.

Repititious Garbage

REALLY, How many times are you going to rehash the same old
garbage??? No one cares about selections that seem out of
character but a handful of idiots!!!!

"Can't Buy Me Love", two days in a row.

Now when the regular DJ was there, he was playing requests as he does for the last 30 minutes of the show. The substitute (we always have one on Friday now) just thinks he's on an oldies station.

If he song itself isn't bad enough, either Paul or John screams.

When Jeff Rollins shows up after the news, there's just a world of difference in the music.

Sounds like you weren't into rock n roll as kid. ;)

Chimp, it appears to me you are a unique individual in both your location and choice of music stations. It might be better, should you object to their music selections, to contact the station management directly. Based upon the lack of response to your various posts on this forum it would seem nobody here either has the capability to alter their selections or possibility doesn't care. I might also add that purely as a bystander to this subject I find it difficult to follow some of your statements due to the lack of context.

I post here because I want to rant. Whether it helps or not really doesn't matter.

Somebody, during a required commercial break, inserted a short version of "Please Mr. Postman" that sounded like The Beatles or a similar act. Once the morning show is over we ought to be rid of people who almost screaming.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just to close to it but I find it hard to comprehend that anyone could hear a Beatles song and not recognize it as The Beatles! It probably wasn't the Marvelettes or Carpenters so I'm guessing it was the Beatles.

Lots of bands sound like The Beatles.

There is the song "Claire" by Glbert O'Sullivan. When I first heard it I thought it was The Beatles. That's all I can think of. Nothing wrong with the song, but it's just an example.

How do you confuse Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Clair" with the Beatles. Oh my. And, "Clair" is an awful song...
