I’ve learned that the shop steward at WROC has called for the rank-and-file to meet Tuesday to discuss the just-announced 8/31 merger.
This raises an interesting point. As some of you in Rochester might remember, Nexstar tried a few years ago to get rid of the CWA union, which represents videographers and other technical staff at 8. So the question is will Nexstar try to break the union by offering jobs to non-union employees at WUHF who are among the 26 that are slated to lose their jobs?
I highly doubt you will see any changes when it comes to the anchor positions. Melanie Barnas and Ty Chandler might end up just being reporters, which 8 certainly can use. What will happen to the other 31 reporters remains to be seen.
