WLTE

Country 12/26

CBS Radio's soft AC "102.9 Lite FM" WLTE goes away after Christmas, replaced by country "BUZ'[email protected]." The website for the new country format (here) already works. "Lite" tied for the #15 spot in the November PPM rankings, though no doubt its current all-Christmas format will improve that position, and give the new format more potential sampling. The WLTE airstaff has already been told they'll be leaving, and on December 26, CBS will re-target to country, as "BUZ'N'." Clear Channel's country "K102" KEEY is ranked #1 in the Twin Cities market, going 9.5 to 8.3 in the last two monthly Arbitron books. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the new country station, here.

What a terrible name for a station... CBS is pretty good at picking bad station names.

I agree. Buz'n is really stupid. Look for it on more of their stations in the coming year.

And CBS does have a knack for dumb monikers. For every "Now" or "Fresh" there's "Blink", "Free FM" and "Amp". CBS just tries too hard.

Good point about KDWB and KS95. KS95 will do boffo business with Lite-out.

They (lite) are allowing a good good-bye. PMD Paul Geiger (who's been with the station almost all 26 years) is planning a final show for Thursday, saying he's grateful for the nice, long run at WLTE.

Let's face it -- 26 years with a station and a format? That's awfully damn good, but it still sucks to be shown the door before Christmas.

As for call letters, why not do a swap with Pittsburgh and West Palm Beach... move WPBZ to Pittsburgh, WBZZ to Minneapolis and put something new on Now 103.1 in WPB :)

New calls are KMNB. I'm a little surprised that they bothered to change in the PPM era and that CBS didn't park WLTE elsewhere.

As fanatical as CBS is with keeping around old call signs, WLTE would probably be a bit more in demand than, say, WHFS. I'm surprised they didn't move it to one of their other stations.

I'm hearing that Ken Anderson, who recently did mornings at 95.7 The Wolf in San Fran and nights at WXTU in Philly will be part of the new station.
