WDCA Washington D.C. to be renamed Fox 5 Plus

http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/fox-5-dc-to-expand/188840

Wow this branding change is pretty similar to KICU-TV San Francisco being renamed KTVU Plus as part of a ploy for the Fox O&O's to expand their audiences to their secondary channels.

WDCA-TV will be renamed Fox5 Plus soon.

So does that mean that their presence as WDCA-TV Channel 20 will go away completely, call letters, branding, and all? And will the PSIP change from 20.1 to 5.x?

WDCA's 20.1 is going off the air soon. They were sold in the spectrum auction. WDCW (CW) DC was also sold in the auction.

But they could still use the WDCA call letters and use 20.1 as their PSIP, even if they use the WTTG transmitter. Several stations across the country are doing exactly that. I'm guessing that Fox won't be doing that in Washington.

“Given Fox 5’s brand recognition, this extension gives us the ability to build upon our strength in the marketplace and provide our viewers with additional opportunities to watch Fox 5 News,” vice president-general manager, Patrick Paolini said

WDCW will also go into a channel sharing arrangement. As to which station with whom will share is not known yet.
