From where do these TIS stations broadcast? From a tower? From the guardrails? Wires strung in rights-of-way trees?
Despite the ripe, Canada-to-Tennessee Interstate 81 corridor not even a mile south of the place here -- an actual steady lullaby at night -- there haven't been any TIS stations logged here yet. There are merely a few unID 'tentatives', and they'll probably never get awarded The Big Gotcha Dot next to them to count as heard.
And since the I-81 exit sign for this town has the off-arrow for us and 'Everywhere Else 500 Miles', local pickings on the X-Band are meagre.
On our car trips up to Scranton and further to the Catskills to see relatives and in-laws though, that same I-81 is sprinkled with those blue TIS signs. 1700, 1640 and so forth It seems that half of them weren't on.
And what we heard one happy trip on a few that were on was a list of overnight temperatures Pretty accurate. Temperatures for Dickson City .. Throop (said 'troop') ..... Kaiser Valley .... Binghamton ....
...... only the temps were from the previous night. We decided that this new format -- Solid Gold Weather -- just might have a chance. But only if there was a tunnel on I-81 all the way from Knoxville to Ontario.
