The Bull Fires Two-Thirds of "New" Morning Show

It shows up in the SF ratings book and qualifies as an SF clear for a national show. That's all that matters.
IDGAS. There's a lot of fantastical thinking in the radio biz, but that doesn't affect the laws of physics. And KBAY ain't serving the population north of the San Mateo Bridge, no matter what you, Alpha or Nielsen want to believe. (It would be a stretch even if this area was as flat as a Florida pancake, which it most definitely isn't.)

It's not a matter if you don't give a shit or not, its fact. Radio syndication and national ad sales are sold via television markets. Nobody else could run Bobby Bones in San Francisco if they wanted to. Also those San Jose and Santa Rosa stations count towards the San Francisco market as well in terms of BIA definitions as well as Nielsen. Those are the business rules that are in place.

Remember that every thing in commercial broadcasting is about selling products to a demographic. It doesn't matter how its done. And a format or show is just how they intend to sell those products.

That's correct, but I buy media, and if a show is carried by a station anywhere in a TV market (DMA), even if it's in a small town on the edge of the market and doesn't reach the main city, the syndicator can claim to have an affiliate in that market. That's all he's saying.

I'm not sure about that. In the San Jose ratings, stations #2 through 7 are in San Francisco. Radio signals travel both ways between both markets. I would guess someone in SF who is really into Country music still tunes in KBAY in the car, even if the signal isn't wonderful. And KBAY has a simulcast on a Class A station in San Francisco suburb Walnut Grove.
