Stephen (St. James) Blakeney succumbs to cancer

Long time Rock 104 afternoon drive air personality Stephen St. James died Sunday morning after a battle with brain cancer.

St. James, whose real name was Stephen Blakeney, also served a operations manager for Blakeney Communications, the parent company of Rock 104.

He previously worked at B-95 and SL-100 as well as WOKK in Meridian.

Visitation will take place Monday evening at Memory Chapel in Laurel from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will follow Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at Memory Chapel.

St James was 37.

I remember Stephen doing late nights on SL100. So sad to hear about that too, especially being as young as he was (and I didn't know he was that young, either). He was just a year older than I am.

I was saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but know the other Blakeney brothers having worked at WKNZ. RIP

He's not related to the Blakeney brothers,by the way.

I had the opportunity to work with Stephen at 97 OKK in Meridian when he did the night show and at B-95, Rock 104 and KZ94. He was wild and lots of fun to work with. Good radioman.
