Songs that charted nationally but ignored/hardly played on a local station?

In an old Billboard article, it notes Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" was not played on top 40 stations ranging from KRQQ Tucson to WABC New York--and a lot of stations that did play it dayparted it even after it topped the charts.
In the Billboard No.1 book, it says many top 40s refused to either play Mancini's "Theme from Romeo and Juliet" and Sammy Davis' "Candy Man" because the songs were too MOR, but doesn't name specific stations.
