They sell drugs on the black market!!!:), where else would they get all that money, not from sub's, not from investors (stock down!!)and not from advertising.

Couldn't this be taken as an admission that satellite isn't exactly the future and terrestrial radio isn't dead? Why else would they want to stick their fingers in the land-based pie?

ABC Radio?

you're reading my mind.

If they managed to buy it, they'd have control over an awfully large number of formats. They don't necessarily have to retain the branding, either (although it'd be essential for ESPN/Disney). They can replace the all-music stuff with their own programming.

The most probable reason for Sirius even being interested is to grab a chunk of the syndication market. With ABC's resources in that area, it would give them a new major revenue stream to prop up the satellite business, which needs it desperately.

*If true,* the only reason I can think of is to give them access to the ABC News and satellite delivery network, and the station acquisition would give them a land-based service from which to make money. We know that both of the satellite services (XM and Sirius) haven't made a dime, yet continue to spend on talent (e.g., Cousin Brucie, Howard Stern). So, a good business move would be to acquire a service which will give a relatively stable cash-flow and revenue stream (radio).

However, what makes this whole thing strange, is the fact that to acquire these stations and assets, Sirius needs money--which it doesn't have because it needs the stations to get the money. It's a catch-22...

It's a very weird proposition.

Because terrestrial radio makes tons of money, and satellite loses tons of money.

I think they are after land based platforms for talent. There is not enough per channel listening to sustain real talent on satellite, while there is on terrestrial.

Disney has not considered selling ESPN radio and Radio Disney.

Another of the many secondary stock offerings. Exchange equity for assests. No debt.

What about ABC Radio News, and ABC talk hosts (Hannity et al) and the ABC 24-hour music networks? Anyone know if they're part of the proposed sale?
Does this mean it's just the stations? I suppose a condition of the sale might be that any Radio Disney affiliate must stay that way.

It's everything but Radio Disney and ESPN.

That's interesting, because Radio Disney shares a lot of resources with the 24 hour networks, so if they strip it off, it's gonna increase the operating costs of the network as a standalone. I don't see them moving it up to Connecticut to be with ESPN.

I seriously doubt Sirius could digest ABC Radio.
