I'm very happy to see 91X show some decent life; I hope this good survey isn't merely a fluke.

Also happy to see Rock 105.3 continue to perform so well!

91X XETRA-FM nearly doubled its ratings in one month! Apparently its Classic Alternative format is catching on.

Along with Washington and Seattle, San Diego is one of a few large markets where an NPR station, in this case KPBS-FM, is #1.

Number one 6+ despite not being in even the top nine 25-54. That means older folks only.

Give Magic their credit for winning among folks who matter to pros.

Same situation with NPR in Seattle. KUOW is #3 6+, but not in the top ten in the 'real' numbers. In other words, probably 50+ in age demos.

Many years ago KPBS-FM moved their transmitter from San Miguel Mtn (inland) at 7 kW, to the coast on Mt Soledad at 26 kW. Although San Miguel Mtn is much higher, the move to Soledad greatly improved coverage.

We've reached the point in time where a station playing Helmet "Unsung", Rise Against "Savior" and Tool "Sober" in regular rotation is now mainly appealing to older folks.

It doesn't seem like that long ago that this designation was bestowed upon stations that played Perry Como, Duke Ellington, Barbara Mandrell or Count Basie.

To back up the point made in the quoted post I was listening to 91X last month and a caller (good for them for taking calls on the air btw) sounded like they were elderly.

A couple of songs come to mind ...

"And the beat goes on..."

"All we are is dust in the wind..."

Barbara Mandrell was late 70's into the 80's. Basie and Ellington were primarily 40's, and Perry Como was mostly 50's and early 60's.

I don't think any single station would play them all together.

It wasn't 7kw. KPBS-FM's former ERP was closer to 2kw. And while the move did improve coverage in North County (generally a higher-income area with presumably wealthier donors), coverage suffered a bit in East County and the South Bay.
