Former KFBK operations manager lands at radio station in Bay Area
By Sam McManis -- Bee Staff Writer
Ken Kohl, who resigned Monday as operations manager at KFBK (1530 AM),
will head down the freeway to San Francisco to develop a new FM talk station in the Bay Area.
Kohl, whose contract with Clear Channel to supervise its affiliate stations KFBK and KSTE (650 AM) was close to ending, will leave the stations immediately. He will be program director of an Infinity-owned former Bay Area religious educational station, KEAR (106.9 FM), which is expected to turn into a talk station aimed at a younger demographic once details are worked out.
There also is industry speculation that Kohl will eventually be named the news operations chief at all-news KCBS (740 AM) in San Francisco, also owned by Infinity.
"I leave with mixed emotions," Kohl said. "KFBK involved everything I went into radio for, but I do feel my work is done here. I'm excited about this new challenge in San Francisco."
