OK, so Cumulus and Cox are no longer reporting to the trades. Can someone explain why? I always thought that reporting was a good thing.

With MediaBase 24/7 and other services, who cares about "adds" anymore?
Anybody can see what each radio station is playing all the time.

Which is why the appearance of being further removed from payola is absurd. If the monitors know you're playing it, it's the same as reporting it, so everybody still gets paid and laid!

Hey OG HEAD-

Check yourself... nobody is paying anybody for airplay these days. Were you asleep when the rules were recently made clear so as to effectively shut out independent promoters and make it illegal to exchange things of value for airplay? What time zone are YOU in?

The good news is that record companies and radio stations will probably work together as they never have before. There's a way to generate revenue to the corporate bottom line if both parties are upfront about their expectations.

So, record companies have become "advertisers" and purchase airtime like so many other advertisers in the past!! The new "art" of record promotion is upon us!! How will it work out in the next few days and weeks???

THE SMART WILL SURVIVE!!!!!

Tell that to the NY Attorney General:

"Spitzer and music industry officials told "Primetime" that millions of dollars in payments, gifts and trips are exchanged each year to get music stations to add songs to their weekly play lists."

Lawyers never lie and reporters NEVER stretch the truth, right? Come on- Spitzer is going to be running for office soon, he's just trying to add notches in his belt.
