Music 81 KCMO

I found a short aircheck of KCMO, on 810 back then, recorded in Columbia, on May 26, 1978. It has most of the "Music 81 Song" that KCMO commissioned as a promotion. I created two separate files:

Just the song plus a spot for a promotion selling the record for 81 cents at all Sears stores in the Kansas City area: https://www.mediafire.com/file_premium/pibdz7v6d2jom9s/KCMO.1978.05.26-Music81.mp3/file

All the above plus the preceding tune with J.P. Morgan as the DJ: https://www.mediafire.com/file_premium/amxeup8nzhy3y1u/KCMO.1978.05.26.mp3/file

There's some electrical interference on the recording from time to time; I've tried to compensate for it somewhat. Even so, it's a reasonably decent recording considering that it was made 125 miles away and that the tape it's on is 45 years old!

I have some youtube videos of J.P. Morgan doing tradio up at KCXL he gave me a suitcase full of his airchecks from various stations on reel to reel as far as i know they are still up there. But havn't been in studio since march 2020 as the covid crisis was beginning.

Do you know whatever happened to the guy who hosted the doowop show on KCXL on weekends?

Thanks for posting! I have fond memories of Music 81 KCMO. My dad listened to it on his car radio when we lived in Emporia. I think he switched to KMBZ after KCMO went News/Talk in 1980.

The file for the preceding tune isn't there. What song was it?

It was removed and I had no control over that, or notification for that matter. This was ridiculous, since it was a recording of an AM signal from 130 miles away with all the attendant "features" that such reception has to "offer". Probably the removal was due to some overzealous copyright weasel.

In any event, the song was Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You".
