KUTV 2 News anchor Shauna Lake Marshall detained on DUI charges

SALT LAKE CITY — A popular longtime TV news anchor was arrested Wednesday for investigation of drunken driving.

KUTV 2 News anchor Shauna Lake Marshall was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of DUI, having an open container in a vehicle on a highway, using plates registered to another car and failing to register or driving with an expired registration.

Lake was reached by phone Wednesday but did not comment about the arrest. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper noticed a white Land Rover was traveling under the speed limit on I-215 in the far left lane about 12:18 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

The vehicle was moving east near 1200 East and after making a traffic stop, the trooper could smell "the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle," the report states. No passengers were inside.

The driver had "red, bloodshot eyes," the trooper wrote, and a clear plastic cup with a straw sticking out was visible on the center console of the vehicle. Lake said the cup was empty and handed it to the trooper.

"I smelled the liquid which was in the cup and it smelled like an alcoholic beverage," the report states.

Lake said she had taken two sips of an alcoholic drink prior to driving and later said the clear cup contained beer, which she had split with another person, according to the report.

The trooper conducted field sobriety tests. "During the Nine Step Walk and Turn, (Lake) left the starting position, stepped off the line, missed heel to toe, made an improper turn and started the test too early," the trooper wrote. She also allegedly swayed while standing on one leg.

Now Lake is named in another DUI investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — KUTV news anchor Shauna Lake was cited for investigation of DUI over the weekend, according to Salt Lake police.

Lake, who pleaded guilty to impaired driving in 2017, was arrested early Saturday at the Salt Lake City International Airport, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks. After being issued a citation, she was released to another party who was able to drive, he said.

She was not booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

The incident began late Friday night. Horrocks said Lake was parked in the passenger pickup area, when something drew the attention of an airport worker. Salt Lake police were called to check Lake for possibly being intoxicated, he said.

Lake refused DUI tests and a warrant was obtained to draw her blood, Horrocks said. The results of those tests were pending on Monday.

Heidi Hatch takes over Shauna Lake's seat at KUTV

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 2, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — KUTV 2, the Sinclair-owned CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City, has named Heidi Hatch as a new main anchor, finally replacing Shauna Lake who left the station in May, two months after a second DUI arrest.

Hatch is no stranger to the anchor desk or the Salt Lake City market, having worked at KUTV for nearly a decade. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter/anchor for KTVX, before moving to Orlando where she held a morning anchor gig at FOX 35 for five years.

Word of Hatch’s ascension came by way of an e-mail from news director Mike Garber. “In addition to being a strong anchor, Heidi is very good at impact reporting and engaging on social media, all things our customers say is critical. In her nine years since returning to Utah, Heidi has certainly gained the trust and confidence of the people of Utah,” he wrote.
