Visited the KNOM site recently. LED illumination holding up well; Nautel ND25 suffered from lightning strike and lost several diodes in the power supply. Plenty of spares on hand so no big issue. Replacements? Very spendy from Nautel and other "normal" sources but cheap on Alibaba and what were shipped were US made, reputable maker. Transmitter is now 19 years old and still reliable.
I just re-read this thread. The store KNOM is definately fascinating. There are a lot of challenges to overcome due to the remote location and brutal weather. Is KNOM still broadcasting a few hours a day to shoot the signal to Russia?
Five years later, and I re-read this thread again (after the last again). Has anybody got any updates on KNOM. This is a fascinating thread on radio operations in AK.
