KMMJ/Grand Island (Translation Nation)

1). Has anyone frequenting this board had a chance to read
_Translation Nation_ by Pulitzer Prize winner journalist
Hector Tobar of the _LA Times_? If not, consider this a
recommended read. Published in 2005, there's a good amount
of coverage of Spanish-language media in the US as well
as other cultural, religious and political core issues.

2). Only after reading the book did I become aware of the
format change at 10,000-watt KMMJ in Grand Island, NE to
English-language news/talk from one targeted to the large
and growing Spanish-speaking population covered by its
big AM signal at 750 KHz.

As far as I gather, such a ``reverse flip'' is pretty rare,
rignt? What's the story on why the KMMJ change was made?
