KELT 102.5 Encinal, Texas

Saint Cristobal has filed a one dollar deal to buy contemporary Christian “Christian Radio 102.5” KELT, Encinal, TX from Mildred Jean Leyendecker. Saint Cristobal does not own any other stations.

...

You're serious? In that case, I would've loved to buy KELT.

It's in a nothing town, its not commercially viable

And it appears the buyer was already running it... If you look at the fcc paperwork, david delgado is one of the directors of saint cristobal and hes all over the KELT facebook page.

The station was originally filed for by Randall Lyendecker, a lumber company owner in Laredo.

The signal in no one reachers Laredo either

Obviously he is running it as a NCE and has found success. I wish him well as the station owner...
It has a CP for 6KW.
KELT 6KW CP

Most brokered shows don't an audience at all, yet there are still idiots who lease time on Multicultural Broadcasting's stations.

To compare WZRC 1480 or W.. whatever 1240 on long island is.. to KELT is like comparing a few snow flakes to a massive noreaster snowstorm

Sure, signal wise, Multicultural's NY cluster is like an absolute beast compared to KELT. HOWEVER, KELT and WPAT (930, not 93.1) probably have around the same amount of listeners.

Not even close.. Encinal has only 540 people. KELT, with its 6kw upgrade wont even cover 1000 people. WPAT 930 has more listeners then that.

But, again, they/that have nothing to do with this, quite a screwy comparison to make

I am familiar with Encinal. Let's look at the data:

The July 2023 population of Encinal is 511, 178 homes
The July 2023 population of the zip code is 1,386 and the zip code covers 968.88 square miles.

28 radio stations can be received.
4 of these stations are in Encinal:
91.7 KQBI - 3,000 watts at 58 feet HAAT (Cotulla in the 40 dbu) Hector Guevara Radio Vida
99.7 KYLQ - 6,000 watts at 315 feet HAAT (Cotulla Pop. 3,651, Botines Pop. 153 and Catarina Pop. 61 are in the 40 dbu) likely secular Spanish language programming
102.5 KELT - 100 watts at 105 feet HAAT (CP to go 6,000 watts at 105 feet HAAT) 40 dbu includes Cotulla, Ranch Las Lomas Pop. 137 and Bonanza Hills, Population 37 (these are Colonias) English language
105.1 KZPL - 100 watts at 30 feet HAAT - owned by a non-Hispanic in San Antonio who owns one of the two Cotulla FMs. Format unknown

Business Sales about $1,164,000 in 14 businesses (excluded Subway, Church's Chicken, Love's Travel Stop and Family Dollar that do not advertise in single location markets). In radio dollars I'd say you might get maybe $300 a month out of the community for the stations to fight it out for (the grocery store and cafes and bar).

Per capita income is $12,370 and household income about $47,305.

Correct. KELT 102.5 covers few people and would have more trouble making money as a commercial outlet than KDCY 97.7 did. KDCY didn’t make it and shut down roughly 30 years ago.

The signal in no one reachers Laredo either

And it can't be upgraded, at least on 102.5, to cover Laredo. Even if it could be, Laredo isn’t an easy place to make money.

You're wrong. Brokered programming works, crappy signal or not.

That used to be the case, but it's less so today. Getting rent-a-preachers to buy time on standalones is difficult, and most won’t pay in advance anymore. Today, they can stream their programming on the internet and either get on an app or have their own developed for less than the cost of getting on the radio. At that point, they can be heard everywhere. Salem used to still make money by selling reach and offering a portal for those preachers with One Place so they could stream on its platform, but, given its current situation, even that strategy seems to have its limits. (Plus, Salem doesn’t generally buy small market stations.)

Plus Kent, KELT is reaching so few people even with the upgrade that nobody would want to lease it or buy time. Someone buying an hour and trying to sell it in the coverage area would have a rough time paying for the time through advertising.

And yes, KDCY couldn't make Cotulla work for them but honestly they were set up to fail from day one. I knew the managing partner who was a good school teacher but not a radio sales person and knew nothing about radio.
