Beginning Monday, September 21, Midwest Communications' KDWZ-FM 102.5 in Duluth switches from a top 40 format to a mix of classic and current country; the new format will be rebranded "Duke FM." This is the second format change in five years for the station; previously an album-rock format as KHQG "The Hog" and before that KRBR "The Bear." Prior to that, the station featured a light rock format for many years as KZIO, call letters now used by rival Red Rock Radio for a metal rock format as 94/104-X.
Midwest already operates a contemporary country format as KTCO "Kat Country" 98.9 FM; its other formats are talk stations KDAL-AM and WDSM, sports talker WDUL, and variety rock format KDAL-FM. The "Jake & Tanner" morning show will move from KDWZ to KDAL-FM. This move, along with the recent switch of Red Rock's WWAX-FM from top 40 to sports talk, leaves Townsquare's KBMX "Mix 108" as the only top 40 station in the market.
