K103

Re: K103 Love Songs

KKCW 103.3 signed on in February 1984 as a soft AC based "All Love Songs" format. After the first couple of years they evolved to straight AC. It's moniker has always been "K-103" and the "CW" in the call letters originally stood for Columbia-Willamette Broadcasting. A rumor around town prior to the sign-on was the "CW" would mean a "Country & Western" format, but KWJJ beat them to the punch with FM Country on their 99.5, then known as KJIB.

That may be more than you wanted to know.

The short answer is they have been some form of AC since day one.

Actually, it was KPOK or KPOK-FM from 1968-73. The "CW" had more to do with the intended format than ownership. It's funny that this was all put together since KUPL originally identified its Country format as "K-98".
