How Did the Media Get It All So Wrong?

Absolutely false. FOX-owned stations get most of their non-local news from AP. They get SOME of their news from FOX but not from the FOX News channel.
The FOX O&O News departments have never reported to Ailes or to FOX News.

Great points too and also the Fox Owned stations make some of their revenue from NFC games. I remember the reason KTVU and KICU San Francisco was converted from Fox Contract station to Fox Owned station was because of NFC games from the 49ers. And was in the top 10 TV markets. That's what I meant about Jack Abernethy having to deal from one set of interests at the O&O division to Fox News.

Glad you clarified this because it is what I noticed on the Fox O&O here in Phoenix. They didn't seem connected to the fantasy news that Fox News is known for.

Not only does he run one, he redefined the category.

The definition of "ability" in a field changes over time. As shown in the past election, the "ability" of the nation's newspaper editors and editorial staff to sway, influence or change opinions has been muted or is simply dead. Things change, and even word meanings change.

There are many entrepreneurs who have created thing that are bigger than expected, and they have had to build their own range of skills to accommodate the growth of their creation.

And now fake news is being played here. some of this is advertising supplements at play here.

I have to wonder just how much of a role those "fake news" websites had played in this election. Oh my my some of the stuff that was said on both sides to the point of being laughable such as if Hillary Clinton would be elected then all American school girls will have to wear burqas to salute our Muslim friends. And if Donald Trump gets elected kiss same sex marriage goodbye as all gays will be rounded up and sent to conversion therapy camps per-Mike Pence. Trump, Pence and Hillary don't have the power to do any of this stuff.

Some months back on Facebook a friend of mine from Portland, Oregon had posted on Facebook a news report from a "FOX 8" a TV station out of Cody, Wyoming about how Donald Trump will take away not only his marriage ( he is married to another guy ) but also his HIV meds too. Of course many posted replies all slamming Trump about this. Ah I had to be the one to send him the message that Cody, Wyoming does NOT have a TV station much less a "FOX 8 Cody" and that website was fake. He would not believe me. Oh well..at least I tried anyway.

Well I thought some talking points sounded fake at first. When Bloomberg had an article of other countries having their own birther issue in this case the 2016 presidential election in the Philippines. I thought it was fake at first and it was a Trump joke gone too far. Well my mom and dad both were born in the Philippines later told me that this birther issue is not a joke it was really an event in the Philippines once they saw other news outlets in the Philippines and the Supreme Court of the Philippines really did do a decision on that. Damn I had no idea other countries have political playbooks like the one I mentioned here.

There have been similar investigations or accusations in Perú (Fujimori) and Argentina (Menem) to establish birthrights to qualify for the presidency. This has, in the past, been an issue in a number of African nations where tribal membership does not conform strictly to national borders.

Wow I thought this was fake news at first but then again another set of News Articles from actual media outlets in Manila said that the Poe Family has been targeted twice for the "birther" issue when running for president in the Philippines. First the father in 2004 for his run for the presidency and the daughter in 2016. In other words I had to be warned twice that these articles and Youtube clips I saw were not fake.

In other words I had to be warned multiple times that this issue was used way before President Trump or President Obama even thought about running for oval office. One example was when an actor in the Philippines was running for a palace president seat in 2004. Has this happen to you before you seen an article that looked fake but you had to be warned that the event you just read was for real and not "a joke gone too far".
