Goodbye K-LUV, Hello The Spot (98.7)

Likely more than you would notice the station, driving down 79 between Buffalo and Palestine. It and KFON are the two smallest Class A facilities I've personally ever heard.
Yeah they’re both worse than an actual LPFM. Do they actually have ads on them?

Although the Oakwood station that erroneously got the KLUV call (current call: KDNT😵‍💫🤪) runs only 100 watts, it is licensed as a Class A, not an LPFM.
I don’t know what will ultimately become of 94.5 in Oakwood, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they upgraded (probably with a frequency shift) and became a K-Love affiliate to fill in between DFW and Houston along the I-45 corridor once K-Love becomes established in those metro areas.

Interestingly enough, the Oakwood station is now showing as KLUV in the FCC database. Radio-locator.com has adjusted it to show the same on their site. By all accounts, it appears the call sign change has been implemented on 94.5 except, of course, it is silent. The attorneys for EMF are certainly taking their sweet time getting "K-LUV" wrested away from NTRG.

Hopefully EMF will be reimbursed for any attorney fees, as this was an FCC screwup. Surprised NTRG was “unaware” of the previous filing.

Guess it would be “unfortunate” for NTRG if the previous KDNT call had been co-opted in the meantime…🤪🤣

And speaking of EMF, they will be launching K-Love in the Houston market with the purchase of KTHT. Can DFW be far behind?

Audacy should take that callsign and park it on one of their silent AMs. Then demand a ransom for the call sign

It was not an FCC screwup. It has long been established that it's first come first served on requests for vanity call signs. Dick Witzkowski is from the old school radio days and knew exactly what he was doing when he sat by his computer waiting for the call sign to become available in the system. The fact that he beat EMF to the punch is gonna cost them dearly.Screenshot_20230728-091541~2.png

Except that he did not, in fact, beat them to the punch. Audacy and EMF submitted a call swap request two weeks earlier, on 6/21 - "first come, first serve" indeed. Take a look right now in LMS and you'll see that there are two facilities that are both shown as holding the KLUV calls, including EMF's CP in Huron SD.

This is not the first time this has happened within LMS since the callsign system was moved there, and it will be resolved the same way as the last dispute was (for WNPW): the party that actually made the earlier request will keep the call, in this case EMF in Huron, and the party that shouldn't have been granted the later request will have to change its calls.

Here's the 6/21 filing from Audacy and EMF:
